Specializing in the archaeology of Palestine/Ancient Israel and the surrounding areas in the Roman and Byzantine Periods, chronologically from about the time of Jesus up to the Muslim conquest of Palestine in the Seventh Century.

Professor Magness has lectured widely to groups around the U.S. and Canada. She has also appeared on programs on the National Geographic Channel, the Discovery Channel, the History Channel and PBS, in addition to interviews by various news media.

Her lecture topics include (but are not limited to): Jerusalem in the Time of Jesus and Herod; Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls; Ossuaries and the Burials of Jesus and James, Ancient Jewish Tombs and Burial Customs; Masada: Last Stronghold of the Jewish Resistance to Rome; Ancient Synagogues.

All of Professor Magness' lectures are suitable for mixed audiences (specialist and non-specialist, academic and non-academic), and have a broad appeal (e.g., churches, synagogues, universities and groups planning a trip to the Holy Land).
